Tip's Weekend Wrap-Up - November 18th

As we put a bow on the weekend of sports, there is no shortage of stories not only in El Paso, but nationally as well. Texas High School Football action saw Seven local teams (Americas, Burges, Canutillo, Clint, Hanks, Mountain View and the undefeated Parkland Matadors), advance into the Area Round of the playoffs. The Hanks Knights capturing their first Bi-District Title since 1995 with a 34-14 win over the Austin Panthers. The Americas Trailblazers came from behind to defeat Friendship 36-35, on a gutsy 2 point conversion to win the game. Parkland continued to establish their dominance with a 64-28 win over the Bowie Bears and captured another Bi-District title for coach Erik Frontz. Best of luck to the teams that advanced in the Texas High School Football Playoffs!

In the College ranks, the UTEP Miners and New Mexico State Aggies were both in action. The Miners extended their losing streak, as UTEP fell to UAB 37-10 and the Aggies got their first "W" of the season, defeating Incarnate Word with a score of 41-28. The Battle of I-10 is taking place this weekend as The Miners travel slightly north to Las Cruces and invade Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday at 2pm. Both teams have one win and there are no ties in College Football!!!! That means someone has to win! You can listen to the game on Fox Sports 1380AM.

UTEP Men's and Women's Basketball stayed UNDEFEATED both with big wins as they eye the New Mexico Lobos this week. UTEP looks to #DefendTheDon this week, the Men's team on Tuesday at 7 and the Women's team Thursday at 11am for a special "Education Day" event that features $10 tickets that include a hot dog and a drink!

Be sure to listen to "The Tipping Point with Mike Tipton" Monday-Friday from 5-6pm, for more reaction to Local, Regional and National Sports News.
