Texas Supreme Court Denies Request To Find Funding Veto Unconstitutional

The Texas Supreme Court is upholding Governor Abbott's veto of funding for the state legislature. The court denied a petition submitted by dozens of House Democrats, staffers, and the Texas AFL-CIO claiming the veto was unconstitutional. In their ruling Monday, the court said the Legislature was free to reinstate funding during the first special session, and have the opportunity to do so in the second one. Abbott vetoed funding to the Legislature in June after House Democrats left the state to block an election reform bill.
