A former candidate for governor in Texas is suing the state over the recently-passed abortion law. Wendy Davis has filed a federal lawsuit claiming the Heartbeat Act is "blatantly unconstitutional" and violates the rights of abortion funds in Texas. Davis says donors and volunteers are facing harassment because of the law that allows private citizens to take legal action against anyone accused of aiding or abetting an abortion after about six weeks of pregnancy. Davis was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2014, and served in the Texas State Senate for six years. She gained national recognition in 2013 after an almost 13-hour filibuster to prevent the Senate from passing an abortion ban after twenty weeks.
