Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick is calling on state leaders to move about $50 million in the state budget to buy bulletproof shields for school police officers. Patrick stated on Friday that he plans a budget execution letter this week to move the funds either to the governor's office or Department of Public Safety. He says he wants to start buying the shields as soon as possible for every school police officer. Patrick's request will need the approval of House Speaker Dade Phelan and other House members of the Legislative Budget Board.
