An awkward moment occurred during Chicago Sky rookie forward Angel Reese's postgame press conference alongside head coach Teresa Weatherspoon and guard Marina Mabrey on Sunday (July 7).
Reese was asked recording her 13th consecutive double-double, which broke Candace Parker's previous WNBA record, during the Sky's 84-71 loss to the Seattle Storm when a hot mic appeared to catch a woman and man arguing about the seriousness of their relationship.
“Are we ever going to have an intimate relationship?” the female voice was heard saying as a reporter concluded their question to Reese.
“I’m sorry the last part cut off,” Reese responded.
“Oh my, that’s an uncomfortable topic,” a man’s voice said, which led to a confused Reese responding with, "Excuse me?"
A Sky staff member asked the reporter to repeat their question before the male voice said, "I never had any interest in being intimate with anyone," at which point Reese, Weatherspoon and Mabrey all responded with shocked expressions.
The call was muted before Reese appeared to say, "oooo they finna get fired."
The incident was, however, confirmed to be “a live audio feed of a slightly risqué scene from the [TV show] ‘Big Bang Theory’ on WGN on the Zoom feed," according to Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune.
Reese finished Sunday's game with 17 points and 14 rebounds to surpass Parker's previous record, which set in games during the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
