Colin Cowherd: Knicks Are an Unsustainable Fad

Watch Colin Cowherd of FS1’s The Herd explain why he thinks the captivating playoff run of the New York Knicks will be a short-lived one, comparing it to the ‘fidget spinner’ as an unexplainable fad that will predictably disappear at any moment.

Check out the segment above as Colin tips his cap to the Knicks for making it as far as they have but says their success is more due to the profound weakness of the Eastern Conference, and the unrealistic burners their guards are on.

Colin Cowherd: “You’ll see things in society sometimes get really, really hot. Like the fidget spinner. And you’re thinking ‘how is this so popular?’ This is not sustainable. Like the Rubik's Cube was kind of math; I got that. But the fidget spinner – it can’t be this popular for this long. Eventually it dries up and nobody cares, and that’s sort of how I feel about the New York Knicks.
How long can Jalen Brunson play like Michael Jordan? He’s now scored over 40 points in four straight games. How long can Josh Hart double his offensive numbers in his career? He’s a ‘bounce-around-the-league’ guy and now he’s like a rebounding zealot and scoring machine. The Knicks had four guys play over 40 minutes -- how long can that last? They have no bench. They [the bench] were outscored 46-3 last night and they keep winning. It’s the NBA’s version of the fidget spinner. How long is it sustainable?
It’s not like they don’t ‘deserve’ it... Excellent fourth quarter offense, effort: excellent, rebounding: excellent, defense: committed, offensively they’re a very intentional team. They have limitations but they have very few bad possessions in the fourth quarter. You see teams sometimes waste possessions, but you don’t get any of those with the Knicks in the fourth quarter. It feels like every time they come down: hustle, dedication, rebounding, and it’s an intentional possession. Sorry, Knicks fans but generally: no bench, one dominant scorer drafted in the second round, a bunch of Villanova guys, and hustle & effort generally have a ceiling. We know their hustle and effort would matter in the regular season. If you play hard you can win 40 games in the NBA if you have any talent with all the load management and so many teams tanking.
I’m not surprised in the really bad East that they were a good regular season team. And some of this is that the East stinks. Indiana is a six seed, Tyrese Haliburton is not a star. He’s got good handles, but he got six points last night. It's a fun team, and in the East it’s a deserving team -- their effort is incredible. But they’ve won five games in the playoffs and outscored their opponents by five total points. When will it end?"
