USMNT Poised To Make A Run, NBA Draft, NBA Parity>Dynasties

Colin is joined by Danny Parkins, host of “First Things First” on FS1.

They start with the World Cup and Colin argues that even non-soccer fans can spot greatness on the soccer field, and that the USMNT has looked great so far, and even though we may not win it… we’ve substantially closed the gap with the world’s best teams (3:30).

They move to the NBA draft and discuss who they think the Chicago Bulls will draft at #4, and whether they should consider drafting local Illinois star Keaton Wagler, or possibly Duke star Cameron Boozer if he falls (12:30). They also discuss the concerns surrounding Darryn Peterson (24:00).

Colin points to changes made by Adam Silver leading to a new NBA Finals champion every year and that parity has been better than dynasties for the sport (29:30). They discuss why all sports now are competitive and in a really good place now that they’re the one thing people watch on live TV (36:30).

Finally, Colin shares the story of one of his first experiences with sports gambling when he was working as a young sports reporter in Las Vegas. They also discuss some of their best gambling strategies (50:00).

THE HERD – Hour 1 – You won’t find a Jalen Brunson in the draft, John Calipari

Colin discusses Team USA at the World Cup and the evolution of the talent into real skill and excellence as America looks to adopt the beautiful game. AJ Dybantsa earns himself accolades and praise from front office executives around the NBA, and it puts him into comparison with Darryn Peterson. With the Knicks winning the championship, the paradigm might shift as Jalen Brunson proves his mettle, but GMs won’t find someone like him so easily and it shouldn’t change the dynamic of drafting talent. Arkansas head basketball coach John Calipari stops by and discusses how Arkansas prospect Darius Acuff and talks about work ethic among young players trying to enter the NBA.

THE HERD – Hour 2 – Don’t talk your way out of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Maurice Edu

Fox soccer analyst Maurice Edu checks in from Seattle ahead of a major clash between Team USA and Australia in the World Cup, how the players and fans both are building on belief after the Paraguay game, and what Christian Pulisic matters to this American roster. Colin sees both arguments for Giannis Antetokounmpobut he urges teams not to seek perfection over fit. Is AJ Dybantsa the best player in the NBA draft? Colin thinks the first pick is easy, but the real fun comes after that.

THE HERD – Hour 3 – 49ers are “nuclear hot” for Crosby, Landon Donovan

Colin reacts to the breaking news that Christian Pulisic won’t play for the USA Men’s team against Australia in the World Cup – but this American team has depth for its talent. The 49ers are tied close to making a trade for Maxx Crosby, but is it desperation to keep up with the Rams? Former USMNT star and Fox soccer analyst Landon Donovan joins Colin to talk about the goals in the USA-Paraguay match and what pressure Pulisic creates and how Team USA will adapt without him against Australia; plus how soccer in America is held back by a development system prioritizing money over getting kids to grow.
